The city of Dessau-Roßlau and its surrounding area is a worthwhile destination for both nature lovers and culture enthusiasts.
Located in a vast floodplain landscape on both sides of the lower Mulde River and near the Elbe.
While Dessau boasts UNESCO-protected sites and is known as the city of the Bauhaus, Roßlau has made a name for itself as a shipping town. Dessau is home to the famous Bauhaus building. Designed by Walter Gropius, this complex of glass, steel, and concrete embodies its founder’s guiding principle: Form follows function!
Among Roßlau’s most important landmarks are the 12th-century moated castle and the Neoclassical buildings designed by architect Bandhauer. The Technical Museum commemorates the work of the great aviation pioneer Hugo Junkers. Visitors to the town can also explore the many treasures in its museums and galleries, as well as the Anhaltische Theater and numerous other recreational activities.
